Technical consultant

The technical consultant designs and implements content strategy solutions for a variety of customers in high-tech, defense, government, and other content-heavy industries. The technical consultant will analyze customer problems, identify requirements, evaluate the costs and benefits of various solutions, develop strategic recommendations, and design and implement workflows that meet the customer requirements.

We are looking for someone who enjoys solving complex technical problems, excels at mastering new technologies, and sees a variety of projects as an opportunity rather than an annoyance.

Requirements

  • Team player
  • Expert understanding of content strategy and information architecture
  • Expert knowledge of XML, DITA, XSL, DITA-OT, web technologies, and other standards-based publishing tools and technologies
  • Experience implementing XML and content management systems

Intern

We are looking for an intern to join our team. The ideal candidate will exhibit strong technical aptitude combined with excellent writing skills; for example, a liberal arts degree and demonstrated interest in web technologies or a computer science degree and demonstrated writing ability.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • At least one year of work experience
  • Knowledge of HTML
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills

Pluses

  • A degree or coursework in technical communication
  • Knowledge of advanced web technologies, such as JavaScript, PHP, XSL, and Flash
  • Experience with digital video and screencasts
  • Experience creating technical documentation: technical writing, technical editing, desktop publishing
  • Experience with XML and/or DITA
  • Additional language proficiencies
  • An interest in either cooking or eating

As the intern, you will be responsible for a wide variety of tasks, including the following:

  • Producing the monthly newsletter
  • Updating the web site
  • Recording webcasts and making recordings available online
  • Moderating community forums
  • Troubleshooting hardware and software problems
  • Proofreading
  • Testing and validating scripts written by our consultants
  • Working on client projects with support from our consultants

Interns become eligible for promotion to technical consultant after 6-12 months. Internships are full-time, paid positions and are eligible for employee benefits, including health insurance and 401(k) with matching company contributions.


We are based in the Research Triangle area of North Carolina, and strongly prefer local candidates. Austin, Texas, and the California Bay Area are also good options. If you are sufficiently awesome, we will consider you as a remote employee in another location. (NOTE: Interns must be in the Triangle area and work in our office.)
