FrameMaker Workbook Series: System Requirements

You can use a FrameMaker Training Series workbook with FrameMaker 7.x or 8 for the Windows and UNIX operating systems. You can also use a workbook with FrameMaker 7 for the Macintosh operating system.

Hardware requirements

Hardware requirements for printed and PDF versions of the workbooks are the same unless otherwise noted.

Platform Requirements
Windows

PC with Pentium III or faster processor and Microsoft Windows 2000 or XP

256 MB of available RAM

Video card that can display 256 colors (recommended)

UNIX

A Sun SPARCstation with Solaris 8, 9, or 10

256 MB of RAM

256215 MB of swap space

X Window System X11R5 or X11R6

Macintosh (FrameMaker 7.0 only)

PowerPC processor that supports the Energy Saver Control Panel (G3/G4 recommended) and Mac OS 9.0, 9.1, 9.2, or X (version 10.1; Classic mode)

128 MB of RAM

800x600 VGA monitor (1024x768 recommended)

All platforms:

Sound capability

(printed workbooks only) CD-ROM drive

(printed workbooks only) 260 MB of hard drive space for exercise files and film clips (if you choose to install just the exercise files, only 10 MB is needed)

(online workbooks only) 12 MB of disk space for workbook PDF and exercise files

Software requirements

FrameMaker 7.x or 8 is required for both printed and PDF workbooks. Other requirements are as follows:

Printed workbooks PDF workbooks

CD that's on the inner back cover of the workbook

Program that plays Moving Picture Experts Group (MPEG) video files

Note: There are many MPEG players available, some of which are free. For more information about video file players, visit www.mpeg.org. For Windows users, we recommend QuickTime or Windows Media Player; RealPlayer does not play some files properly.

(Structured Applications Workbook only) Web browser or graphics program that can display GIF files

(Structured Applications Workbook; Macintosh and UNIX users only) Program that can unzip files and an Internet connection

Adobe Acrobat Reader 5 or later

Program that plays Audio Video Interleave (AVI) video files

Notes:

Compression utility that can unzip files (such as WinZip)

Internet connection to view video clips (high-speed connection recommended)

(Structured Applications Workbook only) Web browser or graphics program that can display GIF files
