Errata in FrameMaker 7: The Complete Reference

xxxvi

Some readers have reported problems with keyboard shortcuts. To the best of our knowledge, the shortcuts provided are correct. However, there are a few confusing points to remember:

  • Osborne-McGraw's Hill convention is to write out keyboard shortcuts in small caps. This can be confusing, as many people logically assume that a capitalized M (small caps) means Shift-M. But this is not the case. You have to ignore the fact that the M is capitalized—it does not imply that you should press the Shift key. If the Shift key is required, it is spelled out (or should be!):
    • Esc M P (in small caps) for shrinkwrap
    • Esc Shift-M Shift-P (in small caps) for reapply master page
  • Keyboard shortcuts may be different on localized versions of FrameMaker. All of the shortcuts in our book refer to the U.S. English version of FrameMaker.

In the section on automatic backup and save features, the extension for an auto-saved file should be ".auto," not ".save.'"

p 121

The bullet for "Side Head" includes a cross-reference to Chapter 11. The cross-reference should point to Chapter 10. Note that this error had nothing to do with FrameMaker's cross-reference management. Chapters 10 and 11 were originally one chapter. When they were split, the authors didn't redirect the cross-reference on page 121 to Chapter 10.

p 189

The parenthetical information in the last sentence in the "Figure table" bullet should read as follows: (otherwise, the caption floats away from the graphic, which is a bad thing).

To show or hide conditional text in a book, select the files in the book file, then select View | Show/Hide Conditional Text. The command is not on the Special menu, as indicated by the text.

p 798

The correct spelling of the AutoText plug-in is "Auto-Text," and it's made by Silicon Prairie Software, not Bruce Foster. Our apologies to Silicon Prairie.
