System Requirements

You can use the DocFrame environment with FrameMaker 7.0 or 7.1 for the Windows, Macintosh, or UNIX operating systems. (FrameMaker 7.1 is not available for the Macintosh operating system.)

Hardware

Windows

  • PC with Pentium or faster processor and Microsoft Windows 98/Me/2000/NT/XP
  • 256 MB of available RAM
  • Video card that can display 256 colors (recommended)
  • Sound capability (if you plan to listen to the workbook film clips)
  • CD-ROM drive
  • 80 MB of hard drive space (workbooks have film clips, which require additional space)

Macintosh

  • PowerPC processor that supports the Energy Saver Control Panel (G3/G4 recommended) and Mac OS 9.0, 9.1, 9.2, or X (version 10.1; Classic mode)
  • 128 MB of RAM
  • 800x600 VGA monitor (1024x768 recommended)
  • Sound capability (if you plan to listen to the workbook film clips)
  • CD-ROM drive
  • 80 MB of hard drive space (workbooks have film clips, which require additional space)

UNIX

  • A UNIX system, including the following:
    • Sun SPARCstation with Solaris 2.6, 2.7, or 2.8
    • HP-9000 Series 700 and 800 with HP-UX 10.2, 11.0, or 11i
    • IBM PowerPC and RISC System/6000 Workstations with AIX 4.3.3 or AIX 5L version 5.1
  • 256 MB of RAM
  • 256-512 MB of swap space
  • X Window System X11R5 or X11R6
  • Sound capability (if you plan to listen to the workbook film clips)
  • CD-ROM drive
  • 80 MB of hard drive space (workbooks have film clips, which require additional space)

Software

  • FrameMaker 7.0 or 7.1
  • Text or XML editor
  • Saxon, a free open-source XML processor (available online)
  • XSL parser and Java or other Software Development Kit
  • HTML Help compiler, (search the Microsoft downloads page)
  • JavaHelp software (available online)
  • Web browser
  • Program that can decompress stuffed and bin-hexed files (Macintosh) or a program that unzips files (Windows and UNIX)
  • Internet connection (to download files for the Structured Applications Workbook; Macintosh and UNIX users only)
  • Program that plays Moving Picture Experts Group (MPEG) video files

    Note: There are many MPEG players available, some of which are free. For more information about video file players, visit www.mpeg.org. For Windows users, we recommend QuickTime or Windows Media Player; RealPlayer does not play some files properly.
