FrameMaker
7: The Complete Reference is Coming Soon!
|
|
Many of you have already heard Adobe's announcement about the release
of FrameMaker
7. Important new features include:
- A dual interface that merges the capabilities of "normal,"
unstructured FrameMaker and FrameMaker+SGML ("structured
FrameMaker") into one application. When you create a document,
you specify whether it is unstructured or structured.
- Ability to import, export, and roundtrip XML files.
- Automatic assignment of master pages based on paragraph tags.
For more information, check out Adobe's
new features list.
To help you learn all about what Frame 7 can do in the structured
and unstructured environments, Sarah O'Keefe and Sheila Loring are
now writing FrameMaker 7: The Complete Reference (published
by Osborne/McGraw Hill). The Complete Reference will be 950
pages long and will be available in June through bookstores (online
and otherwise) and our web site. If you'd like to be notified when
the book is available, please send email to books@scriptorium.com.
To further improve your FrameMaker 7 learning experience, we're
also developing training materials for both unstructured and structured
FrameMaker. Companions to The Complete Reference, these materials
will be used in our classes and as self-study materials. Contact
books@scriptorium.com
if you'd like to be notified when our training materials are available.
For information about upcoming classes on Frame 7, see the story
on training later in this newsletter.
If you're an instructor and would like information about licensing
our Frame 7 materials, send email to sales@scriptorium.com.

Training
in the Classroom and on Your Own
|
|
Our spring training schedule includes the following classes:
You can register online
for these courses.
With the release of FrameMaker 7, we're updating our FrameMaker
offerings and are developing new courses. We will be offering five
FrameMaker classes:
- Accelerated Introduction to FrameMaker 7 (unstructured): Similar
to our current Accelerated Introduction to FrameMaker 6 class,
this class provides an introduction to the unstructured environment
in FrameMaker 7.
- Advanced FrameMaker 7: Template Building (unstructured). Shows
users with basic FrameMaker experience how to build templates.
- Authoring in Structured FrameMaker 7: Shows authors how to create
content in the structured FrameMaker environment. There will be
two versions of this course: one is for authors who are new to
Frame, and the other is for current users who haven't worked with
structured FrameMaker documents.
- Advanced Structured FrameMaker 7: Explains how to create an
element definition document (EDD), the template for the structured
environment.
We've already scheduled two FrameMaker 7 classes for July. The
Accelerated Introduction to FrameMaker 7 (unstructured) will be
on July 15-16, and the Authoring in Structured FrameMaker 7 will
be July 29-30. We will add these classes to the registration form
later this spring. If you'd like to be notified when we post information
about the Frame 7 classes to our web site, please send email to
training@scriptorium.com.
If you'd still like training in FrameMaker 6 and WebWorks Publisher
6, consider self study with our FrameMaker
Workbook and Coursebook and WebWorks
Publisher Workbook.
We sell our self-study materials through our online
ordering form, and we now sell them through Amazon.com
zShops. At our zShop, we accept Amazon
Payments, which offers you the choice of paying by VISA, MasterCard,
American Express, Discover, Diners Club, and JCB.

Conferences: Local and National
|
|
The STC Carolina Chapter TRIDOC
Conference in Research Triangle Park, NC, is just days away
on April 26-27. Some excellent
presentations have been scheduled, and the keynote speaker will
be
Mark Hanigan, Immediate Past President of STC. Sheila Loring
will copresent "Top FrameMaker Template Tricks," and Sarah
O'Keefe will offer an overview of using FrameMaker 7's structured
capabilities for single sourcing.
Register
now or at the door on the day of the conference. We look forward
to seeing you there.
Sarah will be presenting at the
national STC conference in Nashville, TN, on May 7. During her
presentation, Single Sourcing with FrameMaker and SGML, Sarah will
give a demo on using FrameMaker 7's structured interface to single
source documentation. Sarah was ranked among the top 25 percent
of speakers at last year's conference, so you don't want to miss
her presentation this year.
The 2002 FrameUsers Workshop will be September 25-27, 2002, in
Durham, NC. The workshop will feature presentations organized into
tracks, vendor exhibits, and pre-workshop sessions. For more information,
