Greetings. In this issue of Illuminations, the newsletter of Scriptorium Publishing, we have a review of the new release of Quadralay's WebWorks Publisher. We also announce FrameMaker+SGML training, remind you about a STC-sponsored presentation about JavaHelp, and let you know Sheila Loring will offer a presentation about single-sourcing at the STC national conference in May.

We welcome your suggestions for newsletter topics. Drop us a line at comments@scriptorium.com.

New training: FrameMaker+
SGML

On June 28-30 in Research Triangle Park, Scriptorium Publishing will offer FrameMaker+SGML training in alliance with Rose Britton of Software Training Solutions. FrameMaker+SGML offers all the features of FrameMaker 5.5 and adds the ability to define and enforce an SGML-based structure for documents. The course covers such topics as the difference between working with nonstructured and structured documents, understanding the family tree model, exporting the Element Catalog as an Element Definition Document (EDD), and validating a book.

To register for this course, go to our registration form. Register by June 1 to receive the early registration discount.

Unveiling WebWorks Publisher 2000

Quadralay has just released WebWorks Publisher 2000, which converts FrameMaker files to HTML, WinHelp, HTML Help, and other formats. (And yes, the documentation is much better--really!). Read our review of WebWorks Publisher 2000  (PDF, 200K). Also, check out our short summary of the newest features (PDF, 48K).

STC Online Communications SIG sponsoring a JavaHelp presentation

JavaHelp is a new online help contender. It can run on any platform that supports the Java Runtime Environment (JRE). Although JavaHelp is designed to provide online help for Java-based applications, it can also be used for non-Java applications.

The STC Online Communication Special Interest Group is sponsoring a JavaHelp presentation at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 21, at Seagate Software in Durham. For directions to Seagate Software and more information about the SIG and the presenter, Mark Fisher, see the Online Communications SIG web page

Sheila Loring presenting at the STC annual conference in May

During the upcoming STC annual conference in Cincinnati, software guru Sheila Loring will demonstrate how you can use WebWorks Publisher to single-source print and online content. If you're attending the STC conference, don't miss Sheila's presentation on May 19 at 8:30 a.m. for some helpful tips that can save you time and frustration when converting your FrameMaker documents to online formats.
