Register Soon for Discounts on FrameMaker and Acrobat Training!

On June 17–18, Shlomo Perets of Microtype will share his expertise with FrameMaker and Acrobat during his FrameMaker-to-Acrobat Advanced Techniques
seminar at our office in North Carolina. If you want to learn tips and tricks on creating high-quality PDF documents from your FrameMaker files, don't miss this opportunity.

To save $125 off the standard price of $1250, register by May 27. See our pricing and discounts page for more information on discounts for early and multiple registrations. You can register for classes through our shopping cart.

In the coming weeks, we're also offering training on unstructured FrameMaker 7 and XML:

  • Unstructured FrameMaker 7: Accelerated Introduction (June 7–8)—A fast-paced but thorough introduction to unstructured FrameMaker 7 that goes beyond the basics explained in many introductory courses. Learn how to apply tags and how to work with tables, conditional text, books, and generated files such as tables of contents and indexes.
  • Advanced Unstructured FrameMaker 7: Template Design (June 9–10)—Learn how to build a FrameMaker template with features that make document creation easier for writers. You will implement all the components in the template, including paragraph and character tags, cross-reference formats, master pages, and even features for generating fully formatted tables of contents and indexes.
  • XML and Structured Authoring (July 12–13)—In this software-independent class, you'll learn the basics of XML, DTDs, and XML-based workflows. You'll learn about valid and well-formed XML, and explore how you might best use XML in your environment. This course also explains how structure changes the publishing workflow and the advantages and disadvantages of these changes. Don't miss this chance to think through all the issues before you make the leap into structured authoring!

If you're interested in other class dates or want courses on technical writing and structured FrameMaker 7, take a look at the schedule for the entire year.

Scriptorium Publishing is an Adobe Authorized Training Center (formerly Adobe Certified Training Provider). Our instructors are Adobe Certified Experts (ACEs) in FrameMaker 7 and have additional teaching credentials, such as Certified Technical Trainer (CTT+).

DocFrame 2.0 with JavaHelp Output Now Available

Do you need XML output, multiple online help formats, and printed documents from structured FrameMaker source files? If so, check out version 2.0 of our DocFrame single-sourcing solution.

Just released, DocFrame 2.0 offers many new features and improvements, including:

  • JavaHelp output—From DocFrame XML output, you can now generate JavaHelp 2 helpsets along with HTML and HTML Help files.
  • Modular Extensible Stylesheet Language (XSL) files—Because the transformations to online formats share several functions, we've streamlined and modularized the transformation stylesheets.
  • Specification of file names in output—Use the new FileName attribute to control the names of HTML output files.
  • Compatibility with new features in FrameMaker 7.1—You can use DocFrame 2.0 with both FrameMaker 7.0 and 7.1. The DocFrame solution now supports the new conditional text handling in FrameMaker 7.1 files exported to XML, and it processes cross-book linking.
  • Expanded, in-depth documentation—The Developer's Guide now has 45 percent more content, with special emphasis on XSL concepts. The Author's Guide is almost 30 pages longer and offers thorough procedures on creating XML output from FrameMaker files and transforming that content into HTML, HTML Help, and JavaHelp.

If you purchased a previous version of DocFrame in the past 12 months, you will receive a free upgrade. We plan to ship those upgrades in the next week.

For information about pricing and licensing, see the DocFrame page, or contact sales@scriptorium.com.

Back from Baltimore: STC Conference Roundup

Sarah O'Keefe and Dave Kmiec just returned from the annual Society for Technical Communication (STC) conference in Baltimore, MD. Sarah and Dave enjoyed meeting many of you—and eating fish and crab cakes.

If you didn't catch their presentations, you can download Portable Document Format (PDF) versions of their handouts:
