In Support of National Public Radio
|
|
When we're not diligently working, the Scriptorium staff often
listens to WUNC, our local member station of National Public Radio.
As great fans of public radio, we're proud that Scriptorium Publishing
is now a sponsor of WUNC.
At 91.5 FM, the station is a public service of The University of
North Carolina at Chapel Hill and broadcasts informational, educational,
and cultural programming 24 hours a day to the communities of central
North Carolina. Individual contributions and business sponsorships
make up 87% of WUNC's annual budget. For information on becoming
an individual or business sponsor, visit www.wunc.citysearch.com/.

STC Annual Conference Report
|
|
Sarah O'Keefe recently
attended the STC Conference in Orlando, Florida. During her hardship
tour at Disney World, Sarah managed to give two presentations. For
the Bleeding Edge track, she provided an overview of new electronic
publishing and distribution technology and how this may help technical
authors interested in self-publishing. You can download the slides
for The New Economics of Self-Publishing (PDF,
300K).
With copresenter Alexia Prendergast, Sarah also discussed the business
case for single sourcing. This presentation focused on the business
reasons (such as cost, quality, and time to market) for implementing
a single sourcing environment. You can download the slides for The
Business Case for Single Sourcing (PDF,
400K).

Tech Writing 101 registration--going, going,
gone!
|
|
There are just a few seats left in our June Tech
Writing 101 class. A week-long course, Tech Writing 101 gives
you the scoop on the many facets of being a technical writer, including
writing doc plans and outlines, extracting information from product
developers (two words: baked goods!), and working with editors,
who indeed can be very nice and helpful people. Students get an
introduction to FrameMaker while completing hands-on exercises that
will become samples for their writing portfolios.
For information about
our courses, see the training
web page. To
register for courses, go to our registration
