To
upgrade to FrameMaker 6? That is the question!
|
|
Should users of FrameMaker
5.5 upgrade to FrameMaker 6.0? That's been the subject of discussion
for weeks at our office. Rose Britton, Lead Technical Trainer, shares
her conclusions about upgrading in a new white
paper (PDF, 82K).

Upcoming
training: Tech Writing 101, WebWorks Publisher, and Online Distance
Learning: Advanced WebWorks Publisher
|
|
Our week-long Tech
Writing 101 class in June was a big success. One student said,
"I really feel like I'm walking away from this a better tech
writer, a better editor of my own work, and with a clearer view
of the importance of the craft." We enjoyed teaching the class,
and we're looking forward to teaching it again September 18-22.
Be sure to register by August 28 to get the early registration discount
price of $1000, a savings of $200. Students pay $700 for the course,
which includes hands-on writing exercises.
We have a few seats
left for our WebWorks
Publisher class on July 27 and 28, but registration is closing
on July 14. We also have a few spots left for our Online
Distance Learning: Advanced WebWorks Publisher class on July
19-26.
We're teaching many courses
this summer, and we've changed our pricing structure so that you
now get about 15 percent off our regular training
prices by registering three weeks before the start of a class.
STC members can still get about a 10 percent discount if they miss
the early registration deadline. You can get an additional 10 percent
discount if you register for two or more classes at the same time.

form. For additional information, contact training@scriptorium.com.

Preventing
moire scrollbars in screen shots
|
|
If you've created screen
shots on a PC, chances are you've seen moire distortions in the
scrollbars. The scrollbars display as checkerboard patterns, making
your screen shots look messy. Technical Writer and Consultant Sheila
Loring offers a few tips (PDF, 72K) to prevent
moires.

Laura
Holley, our latest addition
|
|
Laura Holley recently
joined Scriptorium as Technical Writer and Editor. She has worked
on projects ranging from marketing brochures to curricula modules.
Laura's passions include doting on her two dogs, reading, and painting
quite lovely pictures. By the way, the squeaky chairs in our office
don't stand a chance now that Laura's here with her can of WD40,
which she wields with a mighty hand. Welcome, Laura!

Intro
FrameMaker course now includes WebWorks Publisher Standard Edition
instruction
|
|
With FrameMaker 6.0,
Adobe has bundled Quadralay's WebWorks Publisher Standard Edition,
which converts FrameMaker files to HTML and XML. To help you get
the most out of this tool, we've added a half-day of instruction
about WebWorks Publisher Standard Edition to our Accelerated
Introduction to FrameMaker course.
Keep in mind that WebWorks
Publisher Standard Edition doesn't have all the features of WebWorks
Publisher Professional Edition. Users of the Standard Edition cannot
create or save custom templates, but they can use templates provided
with the Standard Edition and templates created with WebWorks Publisher
Professional Edition. Having the Standard Edition is ideal for large
writing departments: one person creates a template with the Professional
Edition, and others use the Standard Edition to create output based
on that template.
