Late-Breaking News: Presentation in Germany

We have just confirmed that Sarah O'Keefe will be presenting on FrameMaker and XML publishing in Stuttgart, Germany, on July 30. Her presentation will be in German and hosted by the Stuttgart chapter of tekom. Many thanks to the leadership of that chapter for organizing this event on such short notice. Updated Technical Writing 101: Preorder Now

We will release the second edition of Technical Writing 101 in the first week of August. We significantly revised the single sourcing chapter, and we added a new chapter on structured authoring and Extensible Markup Language (XML). Lead author Alan Pringle also updated the resources appendix and sprinkled new information throughout the book.

To get more information about what's in the new edition, check out the following PDF excerpts:

We've already received several requests for desk copies from technical writing instructors; we will ship those books out as soon as we get them from the printer. If you teach technical writing and would like to evaluate the new edition, you can request a review copy.

The 288-page book is $35.95. We are now accepting preorders in our shopping cart. We will ship all preordered books within a day of receiving them from the printer.

Rave Reviews
in Dallas

Sarah O'Keefe delivered several presentations at the STC national conference in May. According to STC feedback, her FrameMaker presentations scored in the top 10 percent of all conference presentations. More importantly, Sarah says, "Interest in structured authoring is growing. In one session, I took an informal poll. Of approximately 100 attendees, all were planning to implement XML-based authoring sooner or later. A year ago, that number would have been quite different."

Evaluations of Sarah's presentations included the following comments:

  • "Awesome presentation! Answered questions we've been dealing with and struggling over!"
  • "You made this conference for me!"
  • "Great information, encyclopedic knowledge, a wonderful presentation."

Thanks to all who attended these sessions and offered feedback. If you missed the STC event, you'll have another chance to see Sarah at the upcoming FrameUsers Conference. Keep reading for more information...

DocFrame at the
Tri-XML Conference and Atlanta FUN

If you'd like to see how our DocFrame single-sourcing solution works, there are two upcoming opportunities to see it in action.

During the first Tri-XML Conference in Research Triangle Park, NC, on July 25–26, we'll have a booth in the exhibition hall. Please drop by if you'd like a demo, or contact Matthew Arnold at +919-481-2701, ext. 105.

Also, Sarah O'Keefe will present on DocFrame at the Atlanta Frame Users Network meeting on September 10. We'll give you more information about this meeting in a future issue of Illuminations.

FrameUsers Conference: Sun, Sand—and Structure?

Sarah O'Keefe is giving two presentations during the FrameUsers Conference in late October. We'll also have a booth at the conference, which will be held at the Ritz-Carlton in Palm Beach, Florida. ( Florida? October? Sounds good to us!)

Sarah's presentations will be:

  • Avoiding Version Aversion: Managing Content in FrameMaker (October 27)
  • Analyzing Structure Definitions and Creating Structure Definitions in FrameMaker 7 (October 29)
