Review of WWP 6.0

Have you been wondering what new features come with WebWorks Publisher 6.0? If you're thinking about upgrading, check out our white paper, WebWorks Publisher Professional Edition 6.0 Review, for all the details. Find out about what's been added--and what's been removed.

Scriptorium Publishing spreads throughout the known world

Well, maybe just to Idaho. But we're proud of expanding into our first office outside North Carolina. Bill Burns heads Scriptorium Publishing's new Northwest office in Boise, Idaho. Sarah O'Keefe, president, explains the choice: "Our client base has grown across the country, so we were looking for somewhere to open our first satellite office. Boise is a bit like RTP because it has quite a few large technology companies, plus many start-ups. And we were fortunate to recruit Bill, who has lived and worked in the area for years."

Bill will conduct some of Scriptorium Publishing's training, plus work with clients in the western half of the country. Contact Bill by email at sales@scriptorium.com or by phone at 208-484-4459.

Upcoming events

Sarah will present at the August 24 meeting of the South Carolina FrameMaker Users Network (SC-FUN) in Columbia. She will give two presentations, "All About Cross Referencing in Frame" and "Overview of 6.0." For meeting details and information about the SC-FUN, contact Laura Blake at LauraBlake@mynd.com. Continuing her glamorous life as a traveling speaker, Sarah will present at Info Producer 2000 Conference and Expo December 4-6 in Orlando. The conference targets professionals who develop, design, and manage documents, databases, and other content for publication or delivery online.

Technical Writing 101 book coming soon!

We don't mean to brag (yeah, right), but we're about to release a new book through our new imprint, Scriptorium Press. Technical Writing 101: A Real-World Guide to Planning and Writing Technical Documentation is a reference book for new tech writers. It's written by Sarah O'Keefe and Alan Pringle--with lots of help from other Scriptorium Publishing staffers.

The 250-page book won't be available for about another month, but you can preorder it now. It costs $34.95, and shipping (via Priority Mail) is free in the United States. Place your order through our online book purchasing form, and we'll ship your order as soon as the books come off the press. Order 10 or more copies, and you get a 5 percent discount.

Stay tuned for more details about Technical Writing 101 and Scriptorium Press. For more information, contact us at books@scriptorium.com.

It's back-to-school time! (Where's my protractor?)

We created the course FrameMaker Proficiency in a Week in response to requests from our clients, and it's already one of our most popular classes. Not for the faint-hearted, this intense five-day class combines everything from both Accelerated Introduction to FrameMaker and Advanced FrameMaker. It's the perfect program if you can attend only one course in a year. August's class is closed, and we're taking registrations for October 16-20. Register by September 25 to get the early registration discount price of $1175.

Who knew that week-long classes could be so popular? Our other five-day course, Technical Writing 101, has gotten rave reviews. A student in our June class recently wrote to us saying, "I really enjoyed the class. I have found it recently quite helpful in organizing my thoughts and paring down my language. Though the project I'm working on is only half done, I know I will generate a much more usable book." The next class is scheduled for September 18-22. Be sure to register by August 28 to get the early registration discount price of $1000. Students pay $700.

Our next introductory WebWorks Publisher class is September 28-29. For a comprehensive mastery of macros and regular expressions, take Advanced WebWorks Publisher on October 4-5. Register early and pay $850 for the introductory course and $950 for the advanced course. If you're looking for a straightforward assessment of both the costs and benefits of single sourcing, sign up for the Single Sourcing Overview seminar on September 15. Early registration cost is $250. To register for courses, go to our registration page. For additional information, contact training@scriptorium.com.
