Adode recently announced FrameMaker 8, so reports of its demise are still greatly exaggerated. For more information about new features and our initial reaction, see our blog, Palimpsest. We will post a more detailed review soon.

Contest Winners: Digital Book Survey

Thanks to all of you who responded to our survey about providing digital versions of Scriptorium Press titles.

We are reading your responses, and we particularly appreciate the thoughtful comments you offered. Many of you are concerned about how digital rights management (DRM) can tie a PDF file to a particular computer; that is problematic for those who change jobs, have a computer crash, and so on. We will keep you updated about our decisions on digital distribution in future newsletters.

We have randomly selected the names of two survey respondents, who will receive copies of Publishing Fundamentals: FrameMaker 7 and Technical Writing 101. The winners are:

DocTrain East 2007!

For our continuing 10th-anniversary celebration, we are offering free admission to DocTrain East 2007, which will be October 16–20 in Lowell, MA.

One lucky winner drawn at random wins free registration—valued at $999! Registration includes admission to pre- and post-conference workshops, access to a networking cocktail event, and access to the Management Summit. (By the way, our very own Sarah O'Keefe will be presenting at the conference, and Matt Arnold and Alan Pringle will be there, too.)

tcworld 2007

After DocTrain, the next stop on the trade show circuit will be Wiesbaden, Germany, for tcworld 2007 on November 7 and 8. Look for Matt and Sarah at the Big Owl in the exhibition hall, and Sarah will also be doing a couple of presentations. If you'd like to schedule a meeting with Matt or Sarah during the week of the conference, please contact sales@scriptorium.com. We can schedule meetings in Wiesbaden during the conference or elsewhere in Europe on November 5 and 6.
