Illuminations

Volume 2, Issue 8
August 1999

Greetings. In this issue of Illuminations, the newsletter of Scriptorium Publishing, we atone for our content-impaired summer issue with a welcome to our newest employee, a new JavaHelp tutorial for WebWorks Publisher, some single-sourcing goodies, a request for help with a training survey, conference information, and an update (as always) on our training schedule.

We welcome your suggestions for newsletter topics. Drop us a line at comments@scriptorium.com.

Scriptorium Publishing welcomes Michael Stenke

Please say hello to Michael Stenke, who joins our staff as a technical writer. Michael has experience writing all sorts of technical documents, ranging from user manuals to engineering processes. He was a school teacher and a landscape designer in recent past lives, so maybe he can help our ficus tree develop a will to live.

Help for your JavaHelp conversions

We've just put together a tutorial to show you how to use Quadralay's WebWorks Publisher to create JavaHelp files from your FrameMaker files (zip file, 550K). We'll also be posting the tutorial to WWPUsers.com and Quadralay will make it available to WebWorks Publisher evaluators. (If you missed it, an HTML tutorial is also available.)

New training?

We are in the process of developing advanced FrameMaker and WebWorks Publisher classes. Please take a moment to fill out our survey. Your participation helps us ensure that the classes will help you. (And if that's not enough incentive, one lucky participant will receive a $250 certificate good on any Scriptorium Publishing training class.)

Conferences, old and new

We hope you got to attend STC Region 2 summer conference. Rose Britton helped out with registration, which gave her a chance to meet many of you. Sarah O'Keefe participated in a single-sourcing panel; if you missed it, check out the single-sourcing page, which contains the presentation and links to lots of resources.

We'll be attending several other upcoming conferences. In October, Sarah and Sheila Loring will be presenting at the frameusers conference in Minneapolis. Sarah's presentation is a single-sourcing overview and Sheila will pick up with a presentation on how to use WebWorks Publisher for single sourcing. The conference people even scheduled us back-to-back! In November, Sarah will present at Help '99 in Dallas. Her topic there is advanced tips and tricks for WebWorks Publisher users. For those of you interested in WebWorks Publisher, there will be a "tracklet" on the product at Help '99; at least four presentations are scheduled.

We hope to see you at one or both!

Need a FrameMaker-literate translator?

We have compiled a list of translators who provide FrameMaker-based services. With the ever-increasing demand for localized documentation, we thought the list might be helpful.
