Scriptorium Press Presents Technical Writing 101

Scriptorium Press is up and running! We've just released our new book, Technical Writing 101: A Real-World Guide to Planning and Writing Technical Documentation, an invaluable reference for technical writers and anyone considering a career change to tech writing. The book explains the entire documentation process--from the planning stages to writing, editing, indexing, and production. Discover how to handle the pressures of tight deadlines and ever-changing production specifications. Learn about writing and selecting graphics for an international audience. We've even got tips for getting information from developers! The editing and production checklists are also quite handy.

Order your copy today through our web site and receive free Priority Mail shipping in the U.S. You can also order the book through amazon.com. Of course, you can attend our Technical Writing 101 class to get the book--it's our coursebook.

And what about this "Scriptorium Press?"

We learned quite a bit during the publication of FrameMaker for Dummies, not the least of which is traditional publishers' resistance to niche topics. And one day, the number of our staff's "we can do that better" comments hit a critical mass. Scriptorium Press was born.

Our imprint produces content for technical publishing professionals. We sell our books online through our web site and amazon.com, and in bookstores by special order. Our publications will focus on topics such as how to succeed as a technical writer, information architecture, knowledge management, and high-end publishing tools. We expect to deliver accurate, timely, hard-to-find information about technical publishing topics. We also intend to provide authors with topnotch editorial and production support--and no, we won't be using Word.

We're accepting book proposals from authors, planning our next publications, and shamelessly selling our books from our web site. Look for our next book in early 2001.

Web Site Training Pages Get a Makeover

Oh, the euphoria! Our web site's training section is newly revised! We've expanded some of the information and reorganized it to be more comprehensive and convenient. Many of these changes were in response to comments and suggestions from you.

Some of the changes include a chart that lists all of our public classes, "On this page" navigational menus for long pages, and links to area hotels, car rental agencies, and other services. We invite you to explore the new training section.

Thanks to all of you who have shared your ideas with us. This web site is for you, so please continue to let us know what you think. We love to hear from you!

WebWorks Publisher: The Facts and Nothing but the Facts

Quadralay released WebWorks Publisher version 6.0 recently, and now we have two versions of Publisher--the Standard Edition and the Professional Edition. Have you been wondering what the differences are, which version you should use, or whether you should upgrade? The newly updated Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) answers those questions and more. The FAQ is available in three formats: WebWorks Help 2.0, which requires a version 4 or higher browser, plain HTML, and PDF. Visit the FAQ for the facts...or whatever.
