Conferences Continued

Sarah, Alan, and Matt have made their triumphant return from DocTrain East 2007. If you missed us, you can view Sarah's presentations here:

The next stop this conference season is tcworld 2007 in Wiesbaden, Germany, on November 7 and 8. Look for Matt and Sarah at booth 800 in hall 8. Sarah is presenting on Assessing DITA as a Foundation for XML Implementation and Comparing DITA Authoring in FrameMaker and XMetaL. You can also find her article about FrameMaker and XMetaL in the conference newsletter.

If you'd like to schedule a meeting with Matt or Sarah during the week of the tcworld conference, please contact sales@scriptorium.com. We can schedule meetings in Wiesbaden during the conference or elsewhere in Europe on November 6 and 9–10.

Appearing in New Places

If you are a member of the Society for Technical Communications, you can now find Sarah's sage advice in her new column, The XML Strategist, in the November issue of Intercom.

Intercom is a members only publication for the Society for Technical Communications.

Give a Reason to Give Thanks

As our 10th anniversary contests come to a close, we decided to try something a little different. We are doing another tools and technology survey. Between now and November 21st, we will donate $1 to charity for each survey participant, up to a limit of $1000. The money will be split evenly between the American Red Cross (designated for disaster relief) and Doctors Without Borders.

Take the survey.

Congratulations go to Kathi Chapman, who won last month's drawing for both volumes of Publishing Fundamentals: FrameMaker 8. We won't be this generous again for another decade, so be sure to sign up for the final drawing next month.

Upcoming Training

In the final months of 2007, we're offering web-based FrameMaker 7 and XMetaL classes. For information about upcoming class dates, check out our online calendar.

For information about classroom- and online-based training, see our training options page. If you have any questions, contact training@scriptorium.com.

New Phones

We will be installing a new phone system in the near future. Although this is good for us and those that love to speak with us, there may be some downtime. If necessary, we will post down times on our home page and provide alternate contact options.

Our Latest Additions

We are overjoyed to welcome Ethan Duty as an editorial assistant. His skills include HTML, Dreamweaver, Photoshop, and technical writing and editing. In his spare time, he writes poetry, studies Chinese, and makes small video games.

Ethan has taken over the newsletter (see above: "overjoyed").

We also welcome two new fish and a couple of snails to Sarah's aquarium. Below you can see Pongo, a Dalmatian Molly. He spends most of his time at the top of the tank, avoiding an algae eater we named Cruella.
