Illuminations

Volume 1, Issue 3

Greetings. In this third issue of Illuminations, the newsletter of Scriptorium Publishing, we update you about our new office (yes!), our upcoming WebWorks Publisher training, and the latest white papers we've written.

We welcome your suggestions for newsletter topics. Drop us a line at comments@scriptorium.com.

Our email and web site addresses will remain the same.

Upcoming WebWorks Publisher training

Early next year, Scriptorium Publishing will offer its first three-day course on using Quadralay's WebWorks Publisher to convert FrameMaker files into HTML and WinHelp. The course gives you hands-on experience in mapping FrameMaker formats and creating templates for your conversion projects. Each student has an individual workstation, so class enrollment is limited to 10 students.

Class is scheduled for January 27-29, 1999, in Research Triangle Park. Please see our WebWorks Publisher web page for information about pricing and the curriculum.

To register, send email to training@scriptorium.com.

New white papers posted

We've posted two new white papers to our web site:

  • Planning on converting your FrameMaker files to online help but don't know what software is best for you? Read our short paper about the merits of WebWorks Publisher, RoboHelp, and MIF2RTF: What Tool Do I Use?: Converting FrameMaker Files to Help.

  • Production work on translated technical manuals can be an expensive and nerve-wracking experience. Words in other languages are usually longer than their English counterparts, and this expansion of text makes much of the production work you do on your English manuals useless. However, you can design your FrameMaker template to minimize the effects of this expansion, as our white paper about localization explains (PDF, 150K).
