Structured Applications Workbook Now Available!

|
|
The Structured Applications
Workbook, the final workbook in our
FrameMaker 7 Workbook Series, is now available.
The 66-page workbook walks you through creating a structured application
that converts structured FrameMaker files to XML--and back to FrameMaker.
After you set up the application's files, you will modify the DTD
and add read/write rules to handle the conversion of graphics, tables,
and book files.
It's no coincidence that the cover of the Structured Applications
Workbook is chocolate colored. We consumed large quantities
of chocolate while writing the book--and you probably will, too,
as you create your own structured applications!
You can order workbooks at our online
store. We offer bundles of workbooks at special prices. If you
already ordered the workbook individually or as part of a bundle,
we have shipped your copy to you--and we thank you for your patience.
Instructors who would like information about licensing our FrameMaker
7 training materials can send email to sales@scriptorium.com
or contact Matt Arnold at 919-481-2701, ext. 105.

Understanding XML and Structured Authoring
|
|
It's hard to work in technical communications these days and not
hear all the talk about XML and structured authoring. If you want
the scoop on how XML and structured authoring can work in a documentation
department, read our latest white paper, Structured
Authoring and XML (PDF, 600 KB). The paper explains the impact
structured authoring and XML implementation can have on the documentation
process. The paper also addresses several issues, including workflow
options and changes to team members' roles and responsibilities.
We're also offering a new class on XML and structured authoring
in December. Keep reading for details...

FrameScript: A Crash Course
|
|
Carmen Publishing has released Rick Quatro's FrameScript: A
Crash Course, which contains much needed information on FrameScript
concepts. The book combines explanations with tutorials and includes
code samples on a companion CD. Scriptorium Press is now distributing
the 324-page book.
For more information about FrameScript: A Crash Course,
read the
table of contents.
You can order the book from our online
store.

New
Class: XML and Structured Authoring
|
|
On December 12 and 13, we will teach our XML
and Structured Authoring class for the first time. The course
gives you a solid introduction to XML and explains its possible
applications in a technical publishing environment. The class also
shows you how implementing structured authoring changes the publishing
workflow, and it weighs the advantages and disadvantages of these
changes. The course does not focus on tool use; instead, you learn
about the technology and concepts behind the tools. Register by
November 21 to get the early registration price of $720; standard
registration is $800.
