Just Posted: 2004 Training Schedule and Reviews of Our Classes

We've had several requests for our 2004 training dates, so we've posted the schedule for the entire year. Corporate training budgets are on the rise, particularly because companies are investigating the benefits of single sourcing, structure, and XML. Now is a good time to consider training for 2004—especially if you want to save some money with discounts for early registration. For more information about our classes, check out the main training page.

We could tell you that our classes feature experienced instructors and quality materials—but we'd rather let our students tell you themselves! We encourage you to read the student reviews we just posted.

FrameMaker Fun in Palm Beach: Back from the FrameUsers Conference

Sarah O'Keefe, Sheila Loring, and Matt Arnold have just returned—reluctantly—from Palm Beach, Florida, where they attended the FrameUsers Conference.

Sarah gave two presentations during the conference, and you can download the slides for the presentations:

  • Avoiding Version Aversion: Managing Content in FrameMaker (PDF, 500 KB, 4 pages)
  • Analyzing Document Structure and Creating Structure Definitions in FrameMaker 7 (PDF, 1.2 MB, 8 pages)

Thanks to those of you who visited our booth and participated in the DocFrame demos. We hope you enjoyed the chocolates we handed out! Also, congratulations to the winners of the drawings for the FrameMaker 7 Encyclopedia and FrameMaker 7: The Complete Reference.

Speaking of conferences, Sarah will be presenting at the Writers UA (formerly WinWriters) annual conference in March 2004. Matt will also be there at our booth in the exhibition hall.

One-Cent Shipping Sale Continues

We've extended our one-cent shipping sale. You pay just a penny for standard domestic shipping on everything we sell in our shopping cart—just select USPS Standard Shipping when you order books, workbooks, or DocFrame licenses.

Rates for domestic priority shipping and international shipping remain the same.

XSL Class, Anyone?

We're thinking about developing a class on Extensible Stylesheet Language (XSL) that would focus on its applications in publishing. The course would explain how to use XSL to transform Extensible Markup Language (XML) content into outputs such as HTML, HTML Help, and Java Help.

Many of the resources and classes out there now are more for programmers, so we want to tailor a course specifically for technical communicators. If you are interested in taking such a class, contact us at training@scriptorium.com. Let us know what you'd like to learn about using XSL in publication processes.

Review of the Introduction to Authoring Workbook

Our Introduction to Authoring Workbook recently got a favorable review in Interface, the newsletter for the Hoosier Chapter of the Society for Technical Communication (STC). The review says the workbook is a "well-developed, self-paced tutorial designed to introduce students to the structured interface of Adobe FrameMaker 7.0" and an "excellent addition to the FrameMaker training products available today."

If you'd like to review one of our Scriptorium Press titles for a publication or as a possible textbook, refer to our review copy guidelines. Trainers who want to license workbooks as training materials can contact us at training@scriptorium.com.
