Just outside Palm Springs, an aerial tramway takes you up to the top of Mount San Jacinto. My camera phone does not do justice to the view. The tramcams do a better job.

Be warned, though. The tramway goes up about 6,000 feet in 10 minutes. That's a vertical mile. The temperature at the top is about 40 degrees lower than at the bottom. The cable car "bumps" as it goes over the supporting towers and that, combined with the cab's 360 degree rotation (!!) makes it an "interesting" experience if you have any kind of acrophobia (or, as I like to call it, "common sense").

The view from the the top is spectacular, though. Too bad that getting back down requires another tramway ride!
