The XML Strategist: Movable Type and XML
Tuesday, December 02, 2008 — posted by Sarah O'Keefe
My latest XML Strategist article is now available in STC's Intercom magazine. You can also read it online (PDF, 250K). An excerpt:Gutenberg changed the economics of information distribution, and I imagine that many of the artisans who devoted their lives to creating glorious, hand-copied books complained bitterly about boring printed books. It's my opinion that XML, like movable type, is primarily an economic innovation, and that we can extrapolate from the 15th-century reactions to movable type to make some educated guesses about how today's shift to XML will go.
