FrameMaker training

Scriptorium Publishing is an Adobe Authorized Training Center. All of our instructors are Adobe Certified Experts (ACE) in FrameMaker and they have additional training credentials (usually Certified Technical Trainer, CTT+).

We offer five FrameMaker courses, two for unstructured FrameMaker and three for structured FrameMaker. The two beginner-level courses (FM101 and FM201) are recommended for content creators; the three advanced courses are for template designers. We also offer a class on XML and structured authoring.

Our courses are for users of FrameMaker 7 and 8. Differences between the versions are explained in class.

Unstructured FrameMaker training

FM101: Accelerated Introduction
Covers all major FrameMaker features, including features normally found in advanced classes, such as books, tables of contents, indexing, and conditional text.

FM102: Template Design
Learn how to build useful, organized FrameMaker templates. Topics include master pages, autonumbering, building blocks, table of contents design, and much more. Prerequisite: FM101 or equivalent

Structured FrameMaker training

FM201: Introduction to Authoring
Covers FrameMaker's structured interface, elements, attributes, and structured authoring. Prerequisites: FM101 and XML101 (recommended)

FM202: Building EDDs
Learn how to create element definition documents (structured templates). Topics include general rule syntax, attribute definition, structure analysis, and more. Prerequisites: FM101, FM102, FM201, and XML101

FM203: Structured Applications
Covers structured applications, which control import and export of XML/SGML in FrameMaker. Emphasis on XML. Prerequisites: FM101, FM102, FM201, FM202, and XML101

XML fundamentals

XML101: XML and Structured Authoring
Topics include XML syntax, structure analysis, XML workflows, and implementation issues. This is not a software-specific course.

Custom classes

We can customize classes to meet the needs of your project team and deliver them as private classes at your location or ours. For example, we can use your corporate template in the examples and exercises and include a discussion of single-sourcing considerations for generating different types of output, such as printed documentation, PDF files, online help, or web pages.

To inquire about a customized version of these or any classes, please send a note to training@scriptorium.com including a description of the special topics you'd like covered and the dates you'd like the class taught. Generally, you should request a customized class at least 6 weeks in advance, although occasionally we can deliver custom classes sooner, depending on instructor availability.
