SUMMARY:Learning experiences at scale: The role of structured content (webinar)
DESCRIPTION:In this webinar\, Sarah O’Keefe\, the founder and CEO of Scriptorium\, describes the successful implementation of a DITA-based component content management system (CCMS) for a major organization that supports technology professionals with training and certifications.  \nFacing a growing portfolio of digital content\, certification materials\, and training resources\, as well as the limitations of traditional learning systems\, the organization needed robust content operations for scalability and automation.  \nThe move to a component-based approach unified their source content in a centralized repository\, eliminating common production headaches like duplication and versioning. Now\, instructional designers are free from time-consuming formatting and file management tasks\, allowing them to focus on crafting better learning experiences. \nRegister for the webinar on Zoom.

SUMMARY:tcworld 2025
DESCRIPTION:November 11th—13th \nStuttgart\, Germany \nCome see us at tcworld 2025\, the largest technical content conference in the world! Hear Scriptorium CEO Sarah O’Keefe speak in the following session. \nAccelerating global content delivery with structured learning content\nThis case study presentation describes an implementation of structured learning content for a major organization that supports technology professionals with training and certification programs \nThe organization client manages a growing portfolio of digital content\, certification materials\, and training resources. They needed robust\, scalable content operations to keep pace with evolving learning needs and market demands. They evaluated several traditional learning content systems\, but none of them met their stringent requirements for authoring\, flexibility\, automation\, and extensibility. Ultimately\, the organization decided to build learning content ops on a DITA-based CCMS. \nToday\, the source content is unified in a centralized repository where all content is stored and managed\, eliminating the recurring production headaches of duplication\, versioning\, and copy and paste. Their instructional designers no longer spend time on formatting and file management—instead\, they focus on crafting better learning experiences. \nThe presentation describes the process of moving from traditional learning tools to a component-based approach. \nWant to see this session live? Register for tcworld on the conference site. \nMake sure we meet!\nContact us to schedule a meeting during the event.

SUMMARY:Webinar: Why Cheap Content Is Expensive — and How to Fix It
DESCRIPTION:In today’s race to produce more content faster\, many organizations have turned to the lowest-cost resources available — often resulting in high turnover\, inconsistent quality\, and a cycle of rework that drains time and money. This “race to the bottom” appears economical at first\, but it ultimately undermines both team stability and content effectiveness. \nIn this webinar\, guest Dawn Stevens and host Sarah O’Keefe explore a smarter alternative: using automation strategically to handle repeatable\, low-value tasks\, and reinvesting those savings into better-qualified\, more experienced technical communication professionals. The result? Fewer roles overall\, but higher-value ones — enabling your team to focus on designing\, governing\, and delivering high-quality information products that meet business goals. \nRegister for the webinar on BrightTalk.

SUMMARY:Inside the transformation: How CompTIA rebuilt its content ecosystem for greater agility and efficiency (webinar)
DESCRIPTION:CompTIA plays a critical role in the global technology ecosystem. As the largest vendor-neutral credentialing organization for technology workers\, CompTIA supports technology professionals with digital skills training and job-role based certifications. After an acquisition\, CompTIA faced the challenge of unifying multiple content systems\, editorial teams\, and delivery formats. To tackle this\, they implemented a centralized\, structured content model supported by a robust content management system. \nThis webinar details how CompTIA overhauled its content operations from strategy through implementation. Becky Mann\, VP Content Development at CompTIA\, Bill Swallow\, Director of Operations at Scriptorium\, and David Turner\, Consultant Publishing Automation at DCL walk through this challenging transformation that was implemented without a pause in production. CompTIA transformed content to DITA and updated to a modern component content management system (CCMS) that now allows CompTIA’s instructional designers to focus on creating high-quality learning experiences instead of formatting files. \nRegister for this webinar on DCL’s website.

SUMMARY:Information Energy online conference
DESCRIPTION:Hear Scriptorium CEO Sarah O’Keefe share the Trends in TechComm: A tale of two extremes at this global online event! \nMore information about Sarah’s session: \nTechnical communication is diverging: expert\, senior writers on one side and AI automation of basics on the other side. Automation and AI can remove repetitive tasks. But many early AI initiatives are instead focused on total automation and cutting jobs. The argument is that if humans are producing content that’s just adequate\, AI can do the job for less. \nThe tools landscape is also fragmenting with different organizations choosing high-end structured content\, developer-focused Markdown\, or adding AI to an unstructured workflow. Meanwhile\, integration challenges grow as the customer experience needs to draw from numerous systems for content and data\, such as CCMS\, PIM\, and others.  \n\nTechnical communication shifts to specialized roles as AI replaces basic tasks.\nFragmented tools and complex system integration challenge workflows.\nAI raises concerns about bias and sustainability.\n\nRegister for Information Energy on the conference website. \n

SUMMARY:MEGAComm 2025
DESCRIPTION:February 12th-13th \nJerusalem\, Isreal and online \nWe’re excited to kick off 2025 with MEGAComm! \nDuring this conference\, Sarah O’Keefe and Bill Swallow will both return as speakers for the online version of the event. \nFutureproofing Your Content\nEvery now and then\, it’s helpful to look up from the content grind and think about the future. Are you producing content that will stand the test of time\, or are you making choices under pressure that incur content debt for the future? In this presentation\, Sarah O’Keefe looks at the content lifecycle and discusses what you can do today to make things better for Future You.\nModernizing your content management system: The challenges of replatforming\nMany technical communication organizations have established processes inside a content management system (CMS)\, and a single source of truth for their content. But over time\, the business needs change\, and the CMS chosen a decade ago may no longer be a good fit for the organization. At some point\, it becomes necessary to change systems and replatform the content onto a new CMS. \nChanging systems is a costly proposition\, and one that needs to be assessed well. The more customization work that was done to meet your original requirements and the more content you have in the current system\, the more complicated and expensive a replatforming transition will be. \nIn this session\, Bill Swallow shares the business justification\, the risks\, and the benefits of a replatforming project.

SUMMARY:tcworld 2024
DESCRIPTION:Stuttgart \nNovember 5th-7th  \nJoin us at the largest technical communication conference in the world! Here’s where you can see the Scriptorium team in action. \nSo much waste\, so little strategy: The reality of enterprise customer content\nSpeaker: Sarah O’Keefe \nFrom the program: For your customers to effectively use your products and services\, it’s critical that technical\, learning\, and support content are fully integrated across content types. This “enabling” content helps your customers get their work done. Inside your organization\, you almost certainly have three (or more!) organizations that are producing this content. Most likely\, they each use a content authoring system that is optimized for their specific use case. And those content authoring systems work in isolation. \nThis is unacceptable. \nWe need to build out unified content operations so that we can single-source content components in a repository. Content objects such as instructions\, definitions\, and assessments can then be assembled from this single source of truth. Additionally\, we must create shared infrastructure to deliver a unified customer experience; for example\, enterprise taxonomy\, localization\, and design systems. \nUnfortunately\, we currently don’t have a solution for unified content. Instead\, we must combine incompatible software systems. This presentation is a call to action to start working on an enterprise content operations approach. \nModernizing your content management system: The challenges of replatforming\nSpeaker: Bill Swallow \n\nFrom the program: Many technical communication organizations have established processes inside a content management system (CMS) and a single source of truth for their content. But over time\, business needs change\, and the CMS chosen a decade ago may no longer be a good fit for the organization.
