Allison Beatty, Technical Specialist, identifies patterns and organizes information to build publication solutions.
Allison has a passion for describing and organizing information, which can be seen throughout her career as a front-end developer, a digital integration coordinator, and now as a technical specialist.
Her love for tinkering and sense-making grew during her studies in both computer science and information science. These skills now drive her in her current role, along with her hunger for learning, especially regarding metadata, interoperability, and information architecture. Allison loves to help clients by being inquisitive and open-minded so that she can best understand a problem, communicate with stakeholders, and help implement solutions. As a technical specialist at Scriptorium, she builds publication solutions.
Allison gravitates toward complex systems with an emphasis on patterns, schema, and the organization of many components. More frequently than not, she sees how her work in programming and her hobby of weaving mirror each other—not only in their logical and mathematical elements of production but also in their capacity to drive continuous learning and honing of skills. (Insert Ada Lovelace joke about the first computer program ever written and weaving drafts becoming punch cards.)
She has completed training in digital accessibility during her work in digital integration at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and is a member of the International Association of Accessibility Professionals. She also holds a Master of Science in Information Science with a specialization in Human Computer Interaction.
While programming content solutions is her primary work, Allison also enjoys coffee, crosswords, sad country music, gardening, and fiber/textile arts. She is based in Durham, North Carolina, in the United States.
