What ARE Sarah O’Keefe & Dr. Carlos Evia concocting?

In a plot twist that will surprise no one, Sarah O’Keefe and Carlos Evia are writing a book. It’s about AI. Please contain your astonishment.

What’s the new book called?

The Uninvited Author: AI, Intent, and the Future of Content

What’s the new book about?

In this book, you’ll discover how to use AI thoughtfully, strategically, and responsibly in content creation.

Sarah and Carlos explore where AI might add value, where human expertise is essential, and how content teams can build sustainable AI-powered workflows.

Here are the two main concepts:

AI and intention

AI as a customer for information will make writing more challenging. We now have a new contributor (the algorithm) to the original three intentions (writer, reader, and organization).

Slide titled "AI and intention" showing a cross-shaped diagram with four labeled icons — author (brain), work (documents), algorithm (circuit chip), and reader (brain) — connected by arrows converging at a central point.

Synthetic content

Like “digital content,” synthetic content will eventually become the default. Synthetic content will take over from content crafted, assembled, and determined by the author.

Slide titled "Synthetic content" showing a six-stage flow diagram with icons and arrows: brain ("write"), keyboard ("produce"), database ("store"), stacked documents ("represent"), delivery truck ("distribute"), and brain ("read") — depicting the pipeline from author to reader.

“This book is a hybrid: It’s not an academic book written for an audience of five graduate students, and it’s also not one person’s perspective on AI without citations. It’s a rigorous, peer-reviewed, grounded book based on many perspectives. It’s not a boring book.”

— Carlos Evia

And that’s all you get for now!

Our process

We are not generating this book. Instead, we use AI as we hope you will use AI in authoring: as a supporting tool that knows its place.
